91 points WE: "The wine's dark chocolate and spice aroma and full-bodied black fruits and generous texture, promise some good aging. This is a full-bodied wine, rich and worth aging. Drink from 2027."
The most outrageous QPR we tasted at Wine Paris this February came from Jean-Philippe Saby's booth, and lucky for you we scooped up a huge tranche on the spot, with tariff-free arrival slated for this week.
Every memorable deal has a backstory, and today's Chateau Mirotes (pictured above) is no exception. This Saint Emilion Grand Cru was a 20-year workhorse for Jean-Philippe's German importer, with the entire production of the Chateau going to Berlin upon the release of each vintage.
The issue?
...his German importer disappeared out of nowhere. After 20 years of loyal purchasing, no less!
You can predict our reaction, "let's solve your issue Jean-Philippe, by way of an insane deal for our Brine clients, and your mountain of Saint Emilion Grand Cru will disappear even faster than Mr. Schneider did!!!"
Price it SHARP, the thinking went, and the problem goes away easy...
Pop went the cork.
The wine in the glass was absolutely fantastic - This was structured, balanced Saint Emilion Grand Cru with just the right balance on every corner.
The vintage was on target (most of you know the well-deserved hype on 2022 vintage Bordeaux).
The press was good, "The wine's dark chocolate and spice aroma and full-bodied black fruits and generous texture, promise some good aging. This is a full-bodied wine, rich and worth aging. Drink from 2027. 91 points." — Melissa Johnson, Wine Enthusiast 12/24
...and the price?
...if we could get this out to Brine subscribers in the low teens, we would have what is full-stop our greatest Bordeaux deal in Brine history?
Jean-Phillippe cringed a bit, then shrugged, "Allez-y."
$11.90/bottle.
Yes, we are going $11.90/bottle on super-serious, small-production, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru from the best vintage the region has seen in a decade. If you don't see a "sold out" message on the booking form, now is the time to go long - You will not regret doing so, especially with all of the tariff dread on the horizon.
